In this practice, asanas (postures) are arranged in sequences, called series, and focuses on the three points of attention that create the foundation of the practice: asanas, proper breathing, and drishti (a specific gazing point). The system has six series, although most practitioners only study the first, Yoga Chikitsa, which is known as the Primary Series.

Hatha Yoga is an asana (pose) based practice, bringing an awareness to ones posture during each pose. The essence of hatha is balancing the yang and yin areas of the body to cultivate the natural flow or prana within the system to prepare for meditation.
Done as a flow sequence, the practitioner is able to move freely through each pose in a seamless and fluid manner within the awareness of the movement of the breath through the body in a meditation.
